Kent-Moore J-764 Knee Unit Checking Tool
This tool is designed to check Knee Units for the correct setting of the distance from the Steering Knuckle to the Brake Backing Plate. If this distance is not correct and cannot be remedied by the Spring Adjusting Nut, follow this procedure: Remove the Spring Housing Cover and Spring Adjusting Nut (use K-450 special wrench) and remove the large spring. Drop the Knee Unit Checking Tool down in place of the spring (flange end of the tool up) and reassemble the Knee Unit as it was with the spring in place. Be sure that the Housing Cover and the Adjusting Nut are drawn down tight, with the gasket in its place. Next, take measurements, and if they are correct, the fault is in the spring and it should be replaced. If the measurement is still incorrect, there must be some fault with the Knee Unit.
